1946 Congressional Elections

Democrat seats in the House of Representatives dropped to 188 against 246 seats for the Republicans, and their seats in the Senate dropped to 45 against 51 for the Republicans. Truman had not campaigned for the Democrats, many Democrats seeing him as a liability. One issue in the campaign was the Democratic party's handling of the conversion to a peacetime economy, the Republicans asking, "Had enough?"  Labor unrest and strikes had annoyed some people.
